Roundup of best social media from players past and present following Newcastle United’s Carabao Cup Final success.

Dan Burn’s header and Alexander Isak’s strike saw Newcastle end 70 years of domestic hurt with a 2-1 victory over Liverpool in the 2024-25 Carabao Cup Final, despite having conceded an injury-time goal to Federico Chiesa following a Video-Assistant Referee review.

The triumph consequently guaranteed European football next season for Newcastle in the UEFA Conference League at minimum, although they can still qualify for Champions League or Europa League via the Premier League.

Their achievement also ended a 70-year wait for domestic silverware since they won the 1954-55 FA Cup, so here is a round up of all the best social media reaction from players past and present, starting with the squad’s longest-serving defender within the current title-winning squad – Fabian Schar on social media platform, X (formerly Twitter).

Kieran Trippier was the first player to join Newcastle following the Saudi-Arabian takeover and the defender described the victory as a moment that he had ‘dreamed of’ since his arrival at the club in January 2022.

Midfielder, Sandro Tonali scored twice in the Magpies’ Quarter-Final victory over Brentford and the Italian praised his teammates on Instagram for how they ‘owned the moment’ in the showpiece match to claim a first domestic title in 70 years.

Anthony Gordon missed the final through suspension following his red card in a fiery FA Cup exit to Brighton but he warned that this trophy marks ‘the first of many’ trophies to come.

Lewis Miley was the second youngest member within Newcastle’s matchday squad for the occasion (only Sean Neave at 17 years-old was younger), and the midfielder is proud to be part of the Magpies’ title-winning squad.

Substitute, Callum Wilson urged fans to saviour the moment given how far the club has come in the last few years from fighting for top-flight survival to playing in the Champions League, and now winning the Carabao Cup.

Sean Longstaff added that he felt ‘proud’ to help his  boyhood club claim the trophy, having dreamed of achieving this moment since he first went to St James’ Park with family.

The pride was felt beyond the current squad as many of those who walked in their footsteps before them at St James’ Park embraced the moment, especially ex goalkeeper – Tim Krul and iconic forward, Alan Shearer.

Michael Owen has a rare distinction of having represented both Liverpool and Newcastle in his career, but the former England striker admitted that Newcastle ‘deserved’ the title.
