Manchester United have signed defender, Patrick Dorgu from Lecce for £31.4m.
Following lengthy negotiations between Utd and Lecce which culminated in a £31.4m transfer fee agreement, Dorgu has become the first signing of Ruben Amorim’s reign at Old Trafford and brought his two-and-a-half year spell at Lecce to an end.
The 20 year-old joined Lecce in July 2022 and after one season in their youth squad, he was promoted to their senior team, where he has scored five goals and contributed two assists in 57 appearances.
Speaking upon confirmation of his move on a five-and-a-half year contract until June 2030 with option for a further 12 months, Dorgu spoke of his pride at joining United and working with Amorim.
“I am incredibly proud to be able to call myself a Manchester United player; this is a very special day for my whole family.
“I cannot wait to work with Ruben Amorim; his vision for this team and the future of the club is incredibly exciting. There is a clear plan set out for my development, and I feel that Manchester United is the perfect place to fulfil my potential and complete my huge ambitions.”
Dorgu began his career at Husum Boldklub in their youth squad where he impressed and secured a move to FC Nordsjælland in 2020, where he spent two years before he joined Lecce in a move which saw him make his first team breakthrough.
The 20 year-old also represents Denmark of whom he has played for up to Under-21s level before he received his maiden senior call-up in September 2024, during which he made his debut as a substitute in a 2-0 win over Switzerland at Parken Stadium, Copenhagen.
