2024-25 FA Cup: Third Round – Newcastle vs Bromley

Newcastle United host League Two minnows, Bromley in a blockbuster Third Round tie in 2024-25 FA Cup.

Victory would see Newcastle advance past the third round for a second consecutive season, whilst Bromley seek to extend their fairytale FA Cup run – having reached this stage for the first time in their history.

Team News

Alexander Isak is ruled out for Newcastle with a hamstring injury suffered in their midweek semi-final first-leg win at Arsenal in the Carabao Cup, although he was set to be rested for this game due to fatigue following a busy festive period.

Bruno Guimaraes is back from his suspension but Sven Botman (groin) and Joe Willock (knock) are doubts.

Emil Krafth (shoulder), Callum Wilson (hamstring), Nick Pope and Jamaal Lascelles (both knee) remain absent.

Bromley will be without Kamarl Grant following his red card in a 4-1 loss at Crewe Alexandra in League Two.

New signing, Nicke Kabamba is cup-tied after previously featuring for Barnet in this season’s competition.

When is Kick-Off?

Newcastle host Bromley at St James’ Park on Sunday 12 January at 3pm GMT, live on BBC iPlayer in the UK.

Prediction

Currently on a seven-match winning streak in all competitions, Newcastle have to be absolute favourites because even without Isak and squad rotation in play, they still have a strong team with the likes of Miguel Almiron, Harvey Barnes and Kiernan Trippier set to start here.

Bromley though are a superb attacking team and as underdogs, I expect them to come out fighting but their defence are vulnerable to making various errors which simply can’t happen here, especially as a decent response will be expected after their unbeaten league run was ruthlessly ended at Crewe.

I however just don’t see Newcastle losing this if they turn up with a professional performance unless they treat this like how Brentford treated their tie against Plymouth and got stung on their backside, but this is really Newcastle’s to lose.

Prediction: Newcastle 3-1 Bromley

Result: Newcastle 3-1 Bromley
