Southampton defender, Ronnie Edwards has joined QPR on loan for remainder of 2024-25 season.
Edwards’ move has come after he made just two appearances for the Saints following his move from Peterborough last summer, of which his first outing came in a 5-3 away win at Cardiff in the Carabao Cup.
His second appearance of the season came on his Premier League debut in a 5-1 home loss to Chelsea as a substitute in December 2024.
“There is so much potential, obviously it is a massive club,” commented the 21 year-old on his move to West London. “As soon as I heard, I was all over it.
“You can obviously wait until deadline day but as soon as I heard of this, I thought why not get started straight away?”
The opportunity to gain game time also motivated Edwards to join QPR.
“I was used to playing regularly in the past and I have missed that,” said Edwards on his desire to play more regularly. “Hopefully I can get that here.”
With tough competition in defence for starting spots, Edwards believes that fighting for his spot is “great” for his competitiveness.
“If there wasn’t competition football would be easy and you would play all the time! I just can’t wait to get started and hopefully get some minutes.”
Edwards previously played in the Championship in 2021-22 season with Peterborough, in which he made 34 league appearances and is excited to be back in the second-tier.
“I know about the division,” explained Edwards. “It’s exciting, it is another challenge, and I am ready to get going.”
Many members on Edwards’ father’s side of his family support QPR and he revealed that his dad was “buzzing”, whilst getting nostalgic.
“He said about bringing back old times for his generation of the family. I’ll be getting them tickets for every game!”
