Williams have announced that Luke Browning will drive in FP1 at 2024 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
Browning’s F1 opportunity comes after he finished third in F3 this season with Feature Race victories in Bahrain and Austria, before
He then replaced fellow Williams junior and British compatriot, Zak O’Sullivan in F2 for the final three rounds of the season, following budget issues for O’Sullivan.
“It’s an honour to be driving a Williams F1 car for the first time in Abu Dhabi,” commented Browning who will replace Alex Albon for the session then return to the Williams cockpit for the post-season test.
“To have the chance to not only take part in the Young Driver Test but also Free Practice is incredibly special.
“A huge thank you to everyone at Williams Racing for supporting my development as part of the Williams Racing Driver Academy and entrusting me with the FW46.
“I’ll be working hard to prepare and make the most of the opportunity.”
Williams’ Sporting Director, Sven Smeets added that Browning has enjoyed “an impressive” 2024, as he praised the 22 year-old for his contributions to the team through development work and learning.
“Throughout this year, he has made important contributions to the team through his development work and has demonstrated rapid progress in his understanding, maturity, and race craft.
“We are now looking forward to giving Luke the opportunity to drive the FW46 in Abu Dhabi as the next step in his development as a Williams Racing Academy driver.”
