Brentford’s Head Coach, Thomas Frank was “irritated” at his team’s defensive silliness in a 4-3 home win over Ipswich.
Sammie Szmodics and George Hirst fired Ipswich ahead in the space of three minutes, only for Yoane Wissa’s effort and Harry Clarke’s own-goal to pull the Bees level.
Bryan Mbeumo’s second-half brace despite Liam Delap’s equaliser eventually secured victory for Frank’s Bees, which left the Dane joking post-match about how entertaining his team is despite irritating defensive silliness.
“I think it’s good we’re in the entertainment business isn’t it?! I’m completely split.
“I’m happy because we cannot take anything for granted for winning in the Premier League, we’ve been so good offensively for a lot of the minutes in the game, and for showing the mentality to come back.
“Also, it’s then being so irritated about the first 40 minutes which I think is 40 of our worst minutes in the Premier League, against a good Ipswich team who did well.”
Frank though was pleased at how Brentford showed that they “were the better team,” throughout the last five minutes of the first half plus entire second half despite failing to “kill the game.”
“It’s not that we didn’t try to go for the [goal to make it] 4-2. We tried to get it but it didn’t come for whatever reason.
“Then they equalised and you thought we were close to losing two points. They equalised with their one chance of the second half.”
With a Carabao Cup Fourth Round tie at home against Championship’s Sheffield Wednesday to come on Tuesday 29 October, Frank is happy that his team has laid down a marker in terms of attitude.
“The reaction is fantastic, the personality and the character is fantastic; so big credit to the team for that.”
