2024-25 Premier League: Week Six – Brentford vs West Ham

Brentford host London rivals, West Ham at Gtech Community Stadium in a mid-table Premier League contest.

Victory would put Brentford up to ninth if Fulham lose elsewhere, whilst West Ham will leapfrog Thomas Frank’s Bees into 12th with a win.

Christian Norgaard could return for Brentford after he missed their 3-1 loss at Tottenham with a minor injury.

Rico Henry, Josh Dasilva, Igor Thiago (all knee), Paris Maghoma, Yoane Wissa (both ankle), Mathias Jensen (calf), Gustavo Nunes (back) and Aaron Hickey (hamstring) remain sidelined.

West Ham will be without midfielder, Edson Alvarez after he was red carded in their midweek Carabao Cup exit at Liverpool.

Niclas Fullkrug (calf) could return.

Prediction

Having made two quick starts in their last two league games, Brentford’s main issues have been their lack of kicking on when on top and defending, which both need to improve if they want to start finding wins again.

West Ham meanwhile posed a threat to Liverpool on the counter-attack but some poor pieces of marking proved their downfall, underlining how poor they’ve become defensively under Julen Lopetegui.

You therefore have to wonder if this is now must-win for the Hammers given their heavy investment, which could suit Brentford who have had a week to prepare and got the qualities to aggressively target West Ham’s back line.

In fact if the Bees do that then I can see them taking the win because West Ham currently look a mess defensively.

Prediction: Brentford 2-1 West Ham

Result: Brentford 1-1 West Ham
