Brentford face Southampton at Gtech Community Stadium in a Premier League encounter.
Victory will put Brentford into the top half of the table, whilst Russell Martin’s Saints look to stay out of the relegation zone and get a first league win.
Team News
Brentford have no fresh injury concerns to report following their 1-0 Carabao Cup win at Colchester United.
Aaron Hickey (hamstring), Josh Dasilva, Rico Henry and Igor Thiago (all knee) remain absent.
Southampton could welcome Kamaldeen Sulemana back from an ankle injury.
Gavin Bazunu (Achilles) and Ross Stewart (fitness) remain ruled out.
When is Kick-Off?
Brentford host Southampton at Gtech Community Stadium on Saturday 31 August at 3pm BST, untelevised live in the UK.
Stat Attack
- Brentford have won three of their four previous Premier League meetings against Southampton (W3, L1).
- Southampton have lost their two previous Premier League trips to Brentford by a 3-0 result (L2).
- Brentford kept clean sheets in each of their three Premier League wins over Southampton.
- Nathan Collins has produced more shots than any other Brentford player in their opening two league matches of the campaign (3).
- Taylor Harwood-Bellis produced more blocks than any other Southampton player in their first two league matches this season (3).
Prediction
Knowing that they were never realistically going to get anything at Liverpool last weekend, Brentford put in a decent effort without any reward so I do expect them to be back to their best especially after squad rotation at Colchester on Wednesday.
Southampton meanwhile were unlucky to not get a draw in either of their first two league games, but they certainly found their firepower at Cardiff in midweek despite defensive sloppiness.
Now if Martin’s Saints can take that fresh momentum into this game and cut out the errors, they might just get something but Brentford will surely be back on form here and have the edge at home.
Prediction: Brentford 2-1 Southampton
Result: Brentford 3-1 Southampton
