Roundup of the opening week of 2024-25 Premier League season.

Fabian Hürzeler at 31 years-old became the youngest Premier League manager as he led Brighton to a 3-0 win at ten-men Everton, through goals from Kaoru Mitoma, Danny Welbeck and Simon Adingra whilst Ashley Young was red carded for the Toffees.

Bukayo Saka set up Kai Havertz’s opening goal then scored himself from an assist by Havertz to fire last season’s runners-up, Arsenal to a 2-0 home win over Wolves.

Quick-fire goals from Diogo Jota and Mohamed Salah saw Liverpool claim a 2-0 win away at newly-promoted Ipswich, as Kieran McKenna’s Tractor Boys returned to the top-flight after a 22 year-absence.

Erling Haaland netted his 91st goal on his 100 appearance for Manchester City, as the reigning champions won 2-0 away at Chelsea which was completed by Mateo Kovacic’s goal against his former team.

Yoane Wissa netted a late winner as Brentford saw off Crystal Palace 2-1 in a London derby, in which Bryan Mbeumo put the Bees ahead from Wissa’s first-half pass before Ethan Pinnock’s own-goal brought the Eagles level

Elsewhere, Jhon Duran ironically scored the winning goal against the club that he almost joined this summer – as Aston Villa beat West Ham 2-1 in East London, after Amadou Onana’s headed opener was cancelled out by Lucas Paqueta’s penalty.

Joelinton’s strike on the stroke of half-time saw ten-men Newcastle beat newly promoted Southampton, despite Fabian Schar’s 28th minute red card following a minimal headbutt on a theatrical Ben Brereton Diaz.

Joshua Zirkzee swept in a 87th minute winner on debut as Manchester United scraped past Fulham in the season-opener at Old Trafford.

Jamie Vardy’s header cancelled out Pedro Porro’s header as newly-promoted Leicester fought back to draw 1-1 against Tottenham.

Finally, Antoine Semenyo rescued Bournemouth a 1-1 draw at Nottingham Forest, after Forest led through Chris Wood’s 23rd minute strike following a freak ankle injury to Danilo.
