UEFA Euro 2024: Quarter-Finals – Spain vs Germany

Spain face Germany in a blockbuster opening Quarter-Final of UEFA Euro 2024.

Victory would see Spain reach the semi-finals for the sixth time in this competition, whilst Germany look to reach the last four for a 10th occasion in their history – including when they played as West Germany until November 1990.

Team News

Spain have no fresh injury or suspension concerns but Dani Carvajal, Robin Le Normand, Daniel Vivian and Alvaro Morata are at risk of being suspended for the semi-finals, should any of the quartet be booked here.

Germany have no fresh injury concerns to report following their 2-0 win over Denmark, but will welcome defender, Jonathan Tah back from suspension.

When is Kick-Off?

Spain face Germany at MHPArena, Stuttgart, on Friday 5 July at 6pm CEST (5pm UK Time), live on ITV1 in the UK.

Prediction

With just one goal conceded in their four matches so far at this tournament, Spain certainly are favourites given their free-flowing dominant attacking press and I don’t see them changing tactically, especially after having dispatched difficult group opposition in Croatia and Italy.

Germany meanwhile know that they do have the attacking power to beat Spain but they will need to be clinical yet patient like they were against Denmark, but just as solid defensively given the firepower within La Roja.

Spain though are yet to score more than one goal in an Euros meeting against Germany so it is imperative that they score first and kick on, otherwise I can see this going the distance with the Spanish winning on penalties.

Prediction: Spain 1-1 Germany (Spain to win on penalties)

Result: Spain 2-1 (AET) Germany
