Poland take on Austria in a pivotal Group D encounter at UEFA Euro 2024.
Sat bottom of the group and both having a goal difference of -1, victory of two goals or more could see Poland or Austria move into the top two in Group D.
Team News
Robert Lewandowski could return for Poland after he missed their opening loss to Netherlands with a thigh injury.
Austria have no fresh injury concerns to report with a full squad in contention.
When is Kick-Off?
Poland face Austria at Olympiastadion, Berlin, on Friday 21 June at 6pm CEST (5pm UK Time), live on ITV1 in the UK.
Stat Attack
- Poland drew 1-1 against Austria in their only previous European Championship meeting, which came at Euro 2008.
- Austria are winless in their last five meetings against Poland in all competitions (D2, L3).
- Poland are winless in their last six Euro matches – excluding penalty shootouts (D3, L3).
- Austria have won two of their last five Euro matches (W2, L3).
Prediction
Despite having delivered a solid defensive effort against Netherlands whilst posing a strong threat from set pieces, Poland will be disappointed to have not snatched a draw for all of their efforts but Lewandowski’s return will certainly add that extra spark.
Austria meanwhile deserve credit for a valiant defensive effort to try and hold a scrappy French attack despite an unlucky own-goal costing them a point, but I would like to see them show more composure in their attacking end product if want a result here.
This clash therefore should be quite interesting because I can see this being either cagey or a proper attacking battle, with the points eventually shared apiece.
Prediction: Poland 1-1 Austria
Result: Poland 1-3 Austria
