Manager, Michael Carrick has signed a new three-year contract at Middlesbrough.

Carrick joined Middlesbrough in October 2022 and led Boro to a fourth-placed Championship finish that season which ended in play-off semi-final heartbreak against Coventry.

Last season saw various injury issues and periods of inconsistent form prevent another promotion tilt but Boro eventually finished eighth in the table, following one defeat in their last 12 matches.

Carrick also took Boro on a cup run to the Carabao Cup semi-finals where they lost to eventual runners-up, Chelsea on aggregate after a second-leg defeat at Stamford Bridge.

“I’m really happy about it,” commented Carrick upon his decision to stay on Teesside despite having been linked to the Brighton vacancy, following Roberto De Zerbi’s decision to leave the Seagulls.

Carrick also iterated his confidence in the club’s long-term vision but believes that his new three-year contract until June 2027 doesn’t mean much in terms of how he manages the club going into next season.

“I’ve always been quite calm about it. I think having that attachment, that trust and that belief within the club is really important.

“We’ve certainly got that – that’s what still gives me the great feeling that I had when I first walked through the door.

“It feels like a big step as a headline, as a statement, but really it doesn’t change anything I do or how I approach it, it just carries on what we’re trying to achieve.”
