2023-24 Sky Bet Championship: Week 38 – Saturday

Rotherham United face Huddersfield Town at New York Stadium in a blockbuster clash in the race for Championship survival.

Rotherham will stay rock bottom of the table regardless of the result, but a win could put them within 17 points of safety with eight games left if results swing in their favour.

Huddersfield meanwhile can climb out of the relegation zone with a win if results elsewhere go in their favour.

Sean Morrison is set to be available for Rotherham despite battling a calf injury in their 5-0 loss at Norwich last weekend.

Tyler Blackett (hamstring) could make his return to the matchday squad for the first time since September, but Cohen Bramall (ankle), Grant Hall (hip) and Andre Green (Achilles) remain absent.

Huddersfield could welcome Bojan Radulovic and Tom Edwards back into contention following their respective back and ankle injuries.

Danny Ward (knock) is a doubt but Rhys Healey, Josh Ruffels (both groin), Oliver Turton (ACL), Yuta Nakayama (knee) and Kian Harratt (suspension) remain absent

When is Kick-Off?

Rotherham host Huddersfield at New York Stadium on Saturday 16 March at 3pm GMT, untelevised live in the UK.

Prediction

Winless in 14 matches in all competitions and 20 points adrift of safety with a maximum of 24 points available after this match, Rotherham simply have to cut out their defensive sloppiness and find goals somehow if want to mount a miraculous escape otherwise they’re down.

Their last two results of 5-0 losses at Coventry and Norwich therefore must be the bottom of the barrel if they’re to turn a huge corner, especially if want to salvage some pride in this Yorkshire derby.

Huddersfield meanwhile can’t afford any more defensive meltdowns like the second half against West Brom given how tight the battle for survival is, because they are capable of staying up yet their defence could be their downfall if keep wasting opportunities in winning positions.

As for this match, I do fancy Huddersfield to take a routine win if their attack can find its clinical edge but Rotherham will be glad to be at home again, although I can’t see them having enough to quieten the Terriers.

Prediction: Rotherham 0-2 Huddersfield

Result: Rotherham 0-0 Huddersfield
