AC Milan Draw Rennes in Headline Tie of Europa League Knockout Play-Offs

AC Millan will face Rennes in the standout tie of the Knockout Play-Offs in 2023-24 UEFA Europa League.

AC Milan snatched their spot in this stage of the Europa League following a final-day comeback win to eliminate Newcastle from Europe completely, after the pair found themselves in a tough Group F scrap in the Champions League.

Stefano Pioli’s I Rossoneri will now face Rennes in the headline knockout play-off tie after Rennes finished second in Group F behind Villarreal.

Galatasaray finished third in Group A in the Champions League and will now face Sparta Prague, in an intriguing match-up between two teams expected to fight for the title.

Feyenoord will face AS Roma for the third consecutive season, having lost to the Italian team in the 2021-22 UEFA Europa Conference League Final, then in the Quarter-Finals of last season’s Europa League.

SC Freiburg missed out on topping Group A to West Ham and will now face Lens who finished third in Champions League’s Group B.

Marseille blew the chance to avoid this play-off round with defeat to Brighton in Group B and will now face a difficult tie against Shakhtar Donetsk, who missed out on Champions League Knockout Stages following a final-day defeat to Porto.

Qarabag’s first appearance beyond the Group Stage of this competition will see them face a tricky test against Braga.

Young Boys’ reward for dropping into this competition is a tie against Sporting Lisbon, whilst Benfica will face Toulouse who finished second in Group E ahead of Union Saint Gilloise after beating Lask in their final Group E match.

First legs of the Knockout Play-off ties will be played  on 15 February, with reverse legs following a week later on 22 February.

West Ham, Brighton, Rangers and Liverpool meanwhile bypassd this round by virtue of having all won their groups, which guaranteed definite British representation in the Round of 16 stage held across two legs on 7 and 14 March.
