Cyprus host Scotland at AEK Arena in a huge UEFA Euro 2024 Qualifying Group A clash.
Victory would see Cyprus finally register points on the board but remain rock-bottom, whilst Scotland will stay top regardless of what happens here.
Team News
Cyprus have no fresh injury concerns to report as striker, Marinos Tzionis looks to make his 25th international appearance.
Scotland will be without goalkeeper, Liam Kelly who has withdrawn from the squad and has been replaced by Robby McCrorie.
Elliott Anderson has also pulled out of the squad and hasn’t been replaced.
When is Kick-Off?
Cyprus host Scotland at AEK Arena, Larnaca, on Friday 8 September at 8:45pm CET (7:45pm UK Time), live on Viaplay in the UK.
Stat Attack
- Cyprus are winless in three previous UEFA Euro qualifiers against Scotland (L3).
- Scotland won their only previous away UEFA Euro qualifier against Cyprus by 2-1 result in November 2019.
- Cyprus are winless in all eight previous meetings against Scotland in all competitions (L8).
- One of Cyprus’ two goals in this group has been scored via penalty spot – courtesy of Ioannis Pittas in a 2-1 home loss to Georgia.
- Scotland have kept three clean sheets in their four UEFA Euro 2024 Qualifying matches.
Prediction
Sat bottom of Qualifying Group A with little chance of qualification, Cyprus certainly have little to lose but they must defend much better if want to remotely try and snatch at least one point.
Scotland meanwhile have been a class act so far this year and with two automatic qualification spots available, Steve Clarke’s Tartan Army simply have to keep winning and play with the same quality and confidence which has put them top at this point.
Cyprus though will hold little fear but given their form in this fixture and in recent games, I can’t see Scotland slipping up here no matter what is thrown at them because not even the threat of Spain is likely to deny them a qualification spot.
Prediction: Cyprus 0-2 Scotland
Result: Cyprus 0-3 Scotland
