Luton Town have signed forward, Jacob Brown from Stoke City for an undisclosed fee.
Brown has spent the last three seasons at Stoke where he scored 30 goals and created seven assists in 141 appearances, with his final goal coming in the Potters’ opening 4-1 win against Rotherham last weekend which saw the new Championship season commence.
Speaking to www.lutontown.co.uk about his decision to join the Hatters, Brown commented: “It still doesn’t feel real. I’ve known about the interest for a long time and since I’ve known about it, I’ve been so excited. So for it to be finally done, I’m over the moon.”
The 25 year-old added that he can’t wait to play top-flight football as he continued: “It’s every kid’s dream to play in the Premier League and I’ve not done it yet. I need to work hard and earn my chance. But if I do get that chance, I’m so grateful and looking forward to it.
“The journey the club has gone on and where it has come from, you can see how much it means to the players, the staff and the fans to be going into the Premier League. To be a part of that now, I’m buzzing for it, and I’m just going to work my hardest and give my all for the fans.”
Luton manager, Rob Edwards iterated that Brown will fit into his style of play for the coming season, as he explained: “Jacob really suits the way we want to play. He has power, speed, athleticism, a really good engine to press and continually do that.
“He can score goals and we want him to be ruthless when he gets the opportunities.
“He can play in a number of different positions, too. We see him as a striker but if we were to change shape, he can play out wide.
“He scored 20 goals across the last two seasons playing a high share of his minutes out wide, so it’s a really positive signing for us because he’s a great lad, a great human being, and I know he’ll fit into the group easily.”
Brown is eligible to make his Premier League bow with Luton in their opening game of the new season away to Brighton on Saturday 12 August, in a 3pm BST kick-off.
Stoke City’s Technical Director, Ricky Martin meanwhile stated that Luton’s bid was within their “best interests to accept,” with Brown having enjoyed “a positive impact” during his time at the Potters but is now ready to “test himself in the top flight.”
The Halifax-born striker began his career at Sheffield Wednesday as part of their youth academy but was released at 14 years-old, from which he went on to play for Guiseley, Barnsley and Chesterfield before he joined Stoke.
Brown represents Scotland internationally but has failed to score in six appearances since he made his debut in November 2021, as a substitute in a 2-0 win over Moldova.
