Wrexham Announce Pre-Season Friendly Against Chelsea In July 2023

Wrexham will face Chelsea in a pre-season friendly in North Carolina, USA, on Wednesday 19 July, as part of build-up to 2023-24 season.

This clash will see Wrexham face Premier League opposition for the first time since they were taken over by Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney in November 2020.

Although Wrexham currently lie in the top-tier of Non League Football, they could be a League Two club by the time of this friendly if they win promotion from National League where they currently sit top with a four-point lead over Notts County with two matches of the season left.

The fixture will be played at Kenan Stadium, North Carolina, USA in front of up to 50,000 supporters, on Wednesday 19 July with kick-off time set to be confirmed in due course.

Speaking about the decision to go stateside for their pre-season this summer, Wrexham manager, Phil Parkinson commented: Our tour of the United States will be an exciting part of the summer’s build-up to the new season and something we will all be looking forward to in July.

“To have the opportunity to play a team of Chelsea’s calibre at the Kenan Stadium, North Carolina, will be a terrific test for our players and form an important part of our preparations for the 2023/24 season.”

Parkinson also added that he and the playing squad can’t wait to interact with their American supporters, as he added: “We’re looking forward to meeting some of the fans who have supported us so passionately from afar this season at a renowned athletics stadium.”

Chelsea President of Business, Tom Glick added that the Blues feel “delighted” to be taking on Wrexham at Kenan Stadium, in front of what he hopes will be “a fantastic atmosphere” Stateside.

Chelsea fans will also have a two-day presale window from 25 April at 5pm BST UK Time, via goheels.evenue.net if use the promotion code – BLUE, before tickets go on general sale on Thursday 27 April.

Wrexham will also play games on West Coast and East Coast on 22 and 28 July respectively against yet unnamed opposition, as part of their US pre-season tour.

Chelsea will also play an additional US-based friendly alongside this fixture and their Premier League Series friendlies against Brighton, Newcastle and Fulham.
