Newcastle United have signed forward, Anthony Gordon from Everton in a £45m transfer.

Following Frank Lampard’s departure on Monday (23 January), Gordon skipped three days of training under Paul Tait and Leighton Baines as he tried to force a move to Newcastle, which was granted after he returned to Everton’s training ground – Finch Farm on Friday (27 January).

This move brings Gordon’s decade-long spell at Everton to an end in which he has scored seven goals in 78 appearances, since he made his senior debut in their 3-0 Europa League win at Cyprus’ Apollon Limassol as a 88th minute substitute in December 2017.

Newcastle will pay an initial £40m transfer fee, which will eventually rise to £45m once add-ons are included in the 21 year-old’s transfer, which falls £15m shy of Everton’s original £60m price tag on the youngster which fended off interest from Chelsea in the summer.

Speaking about his move to St James’ Park on a long-term contract, Gordon told NUFC TV that he “was always convinced” that Newcastle was the best club for him to progress his career.

Explaining why he wanted to join Newcastle, Gordon added: “I think the fan base and the city really suits me as a person, the way the team are playing under the gaffer at the minute really suits me, and the club just look like they’re heading in the right direction.

“I feel like it’s a really big step. People haven’t seen what I’m capable of yet. I think under the gaffer, and the way the club’s going, I can really excel here.”

Head Coach, Eddie Howe added that he is “delighted” to sign “a top, top talent” in Gordon and can’t wait to begin coaching the youngster and help him develop.

Gordon could make his debut for Newcastle at St James’ Park against West Ham on Saturday 4 February in a 5:30pm GMT kick-off live on Sky Sports due to being cup-tied for the second leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final against Southampton on Tuesday 31 January.
