During his time at the La Liga club, Casemiro spent 2014-15 on loan at Porto where he scored four goals in 41 appearances, as the Portuguese club missed out on that season’s Primeira Liga title to Benfica by just three points.
Utd will pay an initial £50.9m transfer fee followed by £8.48m in add-ons to Real Madrid, with Casemiro having signed a four-year deal at Old Trafford until June 2026 plus option of a one-season extension until June 2027.
Speaking about his move to Man Utd, Casemiro said: “The opportunity to start a new challenge at Manchester United and in the Premier League is extremely exciting.
“I have worked with many great managers in my career and, having met with Erik and heard his ideas, I can’t wait to work closely with him, his staff and my new team-mates in the coming years.
“I’m ending one beautiful journey in Madrid whilst starting another in Manchester as determined as ever to win football matches, win trophies and make our fans proud by bringing success to this great club.”
Casemiro also acknowledged Utd’s legacy across football and their “significance” around the world to fans as he insisted that it is “an honour” to play for the club and help the Red Devils achieve success.
Utd Football Director, John Murtough meanwhile described Casemiro as “a serial winner” who will compliment the current qualities of the current squad by bringing “his experience, knowledge and character.”
In a club statement, Real Madrid commented: “Real Madrid would like to express its gratitude and appreciation to Casemiro, who is part of the club’s history.”
Real also iterated that Casemiro will be best remembered at the club for how he represented the club’s values as “an exemplary player who has given his all for Real Madrid.”
Casemiro will be eligible to make his Utd debut away to Southampton in a 12:30pm BST kick-off live on BT Sport on Saturday 27 August, with BT Sport also set to broadcast Utd’s midweek trip to Leicester five days later on Thursday 1 September.
The 30 year-old Brazilian could then make his home debut at Old Trafford on Sunday 4 September against Arsenal in a 4:30pm BST kick-off live on Sky Sports.
Casemiro represents Brazil in international football since he made his senior international debut in September 2011, and has scored five goals in 63 international appearances for his country plus was part of their title-winning 2019 Copa America squad on home soil.
