2021-22 Premier League: Week 36 – Brentford vs Southampton

Brentford welcome Southampton to Brentford Community Stadium in a mid-table Premier League clash.

With both teams locked on 40 points apiece coming into this match with Brentford just ahead of Southampton on goal difference, victory could take either team as high as 10th until Sunday depending on results elsewhere.

Sergi Canos and Ethan Pinnock could return for Brentford after recovering from hamstring injuries.

Frank Onyeka, Saman Ghoddos (both ankle) and Mathias Jorgensen (quad) remain ruled out.

Southampton have no fresh injury concerns to report as Valentino Livramento remains their only absentee with a knee injury.

Prediction

Despite more than matching Manchester United in attack last weekend, Brentford simply weren’t clinical enough whilst small defensive errors also proved decisive but Thomas Frank’s Bees can take heart from how they bravely took Utd on at Old Trafford and look to bounce back here.

Southampton meanwhile enjoyed a positive start against Crystal Palace with a clinical set-piece opener and did well to continue to apply attacking pressure, even despite Palace growing into the match but poor marking proved their downfall in the last 30 minutes.

This clash however is effectively a near dead rubber with both teams realistically needing just one win from their last three matches to secure safety, so I am expecting a tough battle and a draw could be a fair result if both teams continue to play like they’ve done in recent weeks.

Prediction: Brentford 1-1 Southampton

Result: Brentford 3-0 Southampton
