Everton endured a difficult first-half display against a stubborn Boreham Wood defence, in which Vitaliy Mykolenko, Jarrad Branthwaite and Anthony Gordon all wasted chances, amidst low-quality intensity in a dominant attacking effort.

Frank Lampard’s Toffees however eventually ended Boreham Wood’s fairytale cup run with an improved second half effort, as Salomon Rondon struck twice – first poking in from Seamus Coleman’s 56th minute low cross before heading in a 84th minute strike to seal victory.

Substitute, Josh Coburn struck a 107th minute winner as Middlesbrough withstood a strong Tottenham Hotspur attack, which proved enough for a 1-0 victory over the Premier League club as Boro goalkeeper, Joe Lumley bravely prevented several Spurs players from finding the net.

Timo Werner provided a goal and two assists as Chelsea recovered from their Carabao Cup Final heartbreak to battle to a comeback 3-2 win at Luton, having twice fallen behind to first-half goals from Reece Burke and Harry Cornick who scored either side of Saul’s initial equaliser.

Jairo Riedewald fired in a 82nd minute winner as Crystal Palace scraped past Stoke City in a clinical 2-1 win with just two shots on target at Selhurst Park, as Cheikhou Kouyate’s opener was cancelled out by Josh Tymon.

Phil Foden provided two second-half assists as he teed up Riyad Mahrez and Jack Grealish to strike in the space of seven minutes, which ultimately saw Manchester City battle to a 2-0 away win at Peterborough.
