Bournemouth remain second but now with three games in hand after their Friday Night Football clash against Nottingham Forest was postponed, following structural damage at the Vitality Stadium from Storm Eunice.
Blackburn Rovers’ home game against Millwall also fell foul of Storm Eunice as its after-effects of snow and rain forced two pitch inspections, with the eventual decision to postpone made shortly before kick-off following the second pitch inspection.
Rovers however remain third after fourth-placed QPR failed to take full advantage as Mark Warburton’s Hoops fought back for a 1-1 draw at home to Hull, in which Ilias Chair cancelled out Marcus Forss’ 26th minute opener.
Sheffield United extended their unbeaten run to eight matches as Morgan Gibbs-White got a brace and assist in a ruthless 4-0 home victory over Swansea, which proved good enough to lift the Blades up to sixth.

Down in the relegation zone, Barnsley remain rock-bottom as Dominic Hyam struck an injury-time rebound winner for Coventry at the Coventry Building Society Arena.
Louis Sibley’s injury time strike saw Derby move above fellow relegation zone rival – Peterborough into 22nd, despite Tom Lawrence and Hayden Coulson being sent off for both teams.
Reading opened up a five-point gap above the bottom three as Lucas Joao scored twice and provided an assist for the Royals in a 3-2 win at Preston.

Finally, Joel Bagan’s 49th minute tap-in saw Cardiff snatch a 1-1 draw at home to Blackpool after Marvin Ekpiteta had put the Tangerines in front from a 11th minute header.
