2021-22 Sky Bet Championship: Week 30 Roundup

Fulham remain top of the Sky Bet Championship following a packed matchweek as the fight for second continues to twist and turn.

Aleksandr Mitrovic’s brace plus a late tap-in from Bobby Reid saw league leaders, Fulham cruise to a 3-0 home win over Millwall in a cross-London derby clash.

Blackburn suffered consecutive league losses for the first time since late September and early October as they lost 1-0 at Swansea on Saturday, before losing 2-0 at home to Nottingham Forest who consequently climbed to sixth.

Bournemouth consequently took advantage of Blackburn’s losses to climb to second with a 3-1 win over Birmingham City, as Ryan Christie opened the scoring before setting up Dominic Solanke’s second and Jaidon Anthony wrapped up victory despite Jefferson Lerma’s red card.

QPR remain fourth after twice being pegged back in an eventual 2-2 draw at home to seventh-placed Middlesbrough, with Albert Adomah’s 60th minute own goal denying the hosts victory.

Huddersfield stay fifth after being held to a goalless draw at Preston North End.

Down in the relegation zone, Barnsley remain rock-bottom following a 2-1 defeat at Luton as Elijah Adebayo’s 59th minute penalty sealed victory for the Hatters, after Allan Campbell’s opener was cancelled out by the Tykes’ Carlton Morris.

Derby remain second bottom but moved to within four points of safety as Tom Lawrence produced a goal and assist in a 3-1 win over Hull, whilst the visitors suffered a second consecutive defeat following a 1-0 loss to Preston on Saturday.

Peterborough remain two points from safety after losing 4-0 at Cardiff with Joe Ralls, Aden Flint, Jordan Hugill and Uche Ikpeazu.

Elsewhere, Steve Bruce endured a losing debut as West Brom manager as Billy Sharp’s brace saw Sheffield United defeat the 10-men Baggies 2-0 after Jake Livermore’s red card, which completed a successful matchweek for the Blades after winning 2-1 at Birmingham in Friday Night Football.

Blackpool claimed four points from two matches after Kenny Dougall provided two assists in Saturday’s 3-1 win over Bristol City, before Gary Madine put the Tangerines ahead in a 1-1 draw at Coventry on Tuesday evening.

Lewis Baker provided a goal and assist as Stoke thrashed Swansea 3-0 at BET365 Stadium on Tuesday evening.

Finally, Bristol City bounced back from Saturday’s defeat at Blackpool to beat Reading 2-1 as Michael Morrison’s own goal gave them victory, following Antonio Semenyo’s opener before John Swift’s 74th minute penalty proved consolatory for the Royals.
