Wolves have confirmed that Hee Chan Hwang’s loan spell will become permanent on 1 July 2022.
Hwang joined the club in late August 2021 from RB Leipzig and has produced four goals in 15 appearances across all competitions, which led Wolves to decide to activate a clause to convert his season-long loan into a permanent transfer at end of this season until summer 2026.
Although Hwang is currently sidelined with a hamstring injury, the 26 year-old is “very happy” to extend his deal into a permanent four-year contract and praised his manager – Bruno Lage and teammates for their support this season and helping him improve his game.
Praising both Lage and his teammates, Hwang said: “They have helped me with many things since I came here, and because of this, I have been able to focus just on me and my football and have been able to do my things well.
“I want to say thank you to them because they have helped me to try my best.”
Reflecting on his loan spell since making his debut away in a 2-0 win at Watford in September, the South Korea international admitted that each match “has just been a new challenge” as he adapted to English Football.
Summing up his feelings about his tenure so far and looking ahead to the future, Hwang added: “I’ve tried my best in all my games, and I want to just keep going and win games for Wolves.”
Hwang also provided an update on his hamstring injury as he commented: “My injury feels a lot better now and hopefully next week I can join the team in training again. I want to come back stronger and fitter than I was before.
“My goal now is the same that it was, to score goals and win games here.”
Wolves’ Technical Director, Scott Sellars meanwhile added that Hwang has been a credit to the team since arriving, especially in how quickly he adapted and settled within the club.
Speaking about the impact that Hwang has had on the team, Sellars said: “He’s had a really positive affect on not only the team, but also the whole football club, and he’s been a fantastic addition to Wolves.
Sellars also noted how “focused and determined” Hwang is in his desire to enjoy a successful football career, which was evident when they first met during negotiations as Hwang looked for a fresh start after a difficult experience at RB Leipzig.
“He’s shown a lot of determination, a lot of focus and certainly a lot of professionalism every day, and he’s got his rewards in terms of his performances and his goals.”
Sellars also iterated his belief that by securing Hwang on a permanent deal now despite registration not being officially completed until 1 July, this move will enable Hwang to develop “even more confidence” as he returns from injury.
