2022 FIFA World Cup Qualifying: Scotland vs Denmark

Scotland conclude their 2022 FIFA World Cup Qualifying campaign with a top of Group F clash against Denmark at Hampden Park.

With second now assured, victory could see Scotland secure a home semi-final and seeded position in the Play-Offs depending on results elsewhere.

Denmark meanwhile are looking to finish their campaign on an unbeaten high without defeat if they can win in Glasgow.

Nathan Patterson is ruled out for Scotland through suspension after picking up his second booking of the campaign in Friday’s win away to Moldova, which has forced manager – Steve Clarke to call up Celtic’s Anthony Ralston to replace the Rangers’ defender.

Scott McTominay (illness), Grant Hanley (groin) and Ryan Fraser (calf) also miss out after the trio withdrew prior to the trip to Moldova, with Ryan Porteous recalled in place of McTominay.

Denmark will be without Jonas Wind after the Copenhagen striker withdrew through injury.

Joachim Andersen (unspecified) meanwhile is ruled out whilst Jesper Lindstrom and Mohamad Daramy both miss out after being switched to the U21s team ahead of a crucial qualifier against Turkey.

Prediction

Having delivered an excellent all-round performance away in Moldova complete with superb overlapping play on the flanks and unbeaten in their last five matches, Scotland can come into this high on confidence and believe that they can stun Denmark especially with an electric home crowd atmosphere.

Denmark though have just been dominant throughout 2021 with only Finland, Belgium and England able to beat them, which highlights just how hard a task this is for Scotland because the Danes were ruthlessly clinical against Faroe Islands on Friday evening.

One thing which is a certainty though is that both teams enter this match full of belief so I do expect a cracking contest, yet I feel that Denmark’s strong run might be about to hit a shock bump in the road if Scotland continue to play with quality and maximise morale from a loud home crowd.

Prediction: Scotland 2-1 Denmark

Result: Scotland 2-0 Denmark
