2020-21 Sky Bet Championship: Week 46 – Cardiff vs Rotherham

Rotherham face a must-win final day trip if they’re to stand any chance at survival as they visit Cardiff City at the Cardiff City Stadium.

Should Reading lose at home to Huddersfield, Cardiff can finish the season in seventh after seeing their play-off dreams finish a few weeks ago.

Rotherham meanwhile must win if they to stand any chance at survival although victory won’t be enough if Derby defeat Sheffield Wednesday elsewhere.

Kieffer Moore is a doubt for Cardiff after suffering a knock to his Achilles.

Junior Bacuna, Max Watters (hamstring) and Sean Morrison (arm) are ruled out, whilst Jordi Osei-Tutu has terminated his loan with the Bluebirds and returned to Arsenal for treatment on an ankle injury.

Rotherham have no fresh injury concerns to report as Viktor Johansson remains absent with an eye injury.

Stat Attack

  • Cardiff have lost just one of their nine previous Championship meetings against Rotherham (W5, D3, L1).
  • Rotherham have claimed just two points from their four previous Championship trips to Cardiff (D2, L2), failing to score on three of those visits.
  • Kieffer Moore is Cardiff’s top goalscorer this season with 20 goals but the Welsh striker has produced just one assist for his teammates in 41 league appearances.
  • Paul Warne’s Millers have kept just one disciplinary clean sheet in their last eight away trips (W3, D1, L4).
  • Cardiff drew their only previous home game refereed by Graham Scott this season, as Mick McCarthy’s Bluebirds held Stoke to a goalless draw in March.

Prediction

Having delivered a dominant away performance at Birmingham City last Saturday, Cardiff certainly will be relishing this opportunity to finish their season with a strong home performance given their form in this fixture.

Rotherham meanwhile simply must win and hope Sheffield Wednesday do them a favour elsewhere, yet they seem to struggle to score more than once in most matches this season so I feel like they need to score first to give themselves a chance at survival.

Do that then the escape could well be on but if they concede first, I can’t see them getting any result given how strong Cardiff is and Mick McCarthy won’t be putting out a team to roll over despite having nothing of note to play for.

Prediction: Cardiff 2-0 Rotherham

Result: Cardiff 1-1 Rotherham (Rotherham are RELEGATED!!!)
