West Ham United welcome Burnley to the London Stadium in a huge Premier League clash, as Sean Dyche’s Clarets look to boost their survival bid.
West Ham could temporarily climb as high as seventh with victory whilst Burnley will stay 16th with a win, although a winning margin by four goals or more could see the visitors rise up to 15th in the table.
Team News
Lukasz Fabianski could return for West Ham after missing their FA Cup win at Stockport County with a thigh injury.
Ryan Fredericks (Coronavirus) and Issa Diop (undisclosed) could also be in contention but Fabian Balbuena (Coronavirus) and Arthur Masuaku (knee) remain sidelined.
Burnley could have a full squad available for selection as Charlie Taylor is in contention to return from a hamstring injury.
Jimmy Dunne (knock) and Bailey Peacock-Farrell (illness) are doubts but could also be in contention if prove their fitness.
Stat Attack
- West Ham have taken just four points from their last six matches against Burnley (W1, D1, L4).
- Burnley have won two of their four previous trips to the London Stadium (W2, L2).
- David Moyes’ Hammers have lost four of their last five clashes against Burnley without scoring in those four defeats.
- No Clarets player has created more crosses this season than Dwight McNeil, who made 89 crosses in 14 league appearances.
- Jarrod Bowen has produced 34 shots in 17 appearances this season, more than any other West Ham player.
Prediction
Despite largely fielding a strong first team on Monday evening, West Ham were made to really work for their third clean sheet in all competitions but digging in deep has been something which has become a huge characteristic of the Hammers’ play in recent weeks.
Burnley though are renowned for their defensive stubbornness which served them well despite failing to register a shot on target in Tuesday’s defeat to Manchester United, so I hope to see a more attacking display here from Sean Dyche’s Clarets here.
Defending and attacking grit from both teams though in recent games have been quite key to results so I am expecting a close contest here, yet clean sheets at the London Stadium have been difficult in recent months for the Hammers.
Prediction: West Ham 1-1 Burnley
Result: West Ham 1-0 Burnley
