2020-21 Premier League: Week Three – Tottenham Hotspur vs Newcastle United

Tottenham Hotspur continue their hectic schedule as they welcome Newcastle United to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Super Sunday.

Spurs could climb as high as third with victory whilst Newcastle can potentially leapfrog their hosts into the top six with a win.

Tanguy Ndombele is a doubt for Tottenham with fitness concerns after managing to play 90 minutes in their 3-1 Europa League away win over Shkendija in midweek.

Sergio Reguilon (ankle) could also be available for selection if he can prove his fitness but Japhet Tanganga (thigh) and Gareth Bale (knee) are ruled out.

Newcastle could be without Ciaran Clark after the Irish defender suffered a thigh injury in Wednesday’s 7-0 away Carabao Cup win over Morecambe.

Allan Saint-Maximin and Jamal Lewis are doubts with ankle and facial injuries suffered in last weekend’s loss to Brighton.

Martin Dubravka (heel), Paul Dummett (hamstring), Fabian Schar (shoulder), Matthew Longstaff (thigh) and Dwight Gayle (knee) remain absent.

Stat Attack

Prediction

Both teams enter this match off the back of superb midweek performances but if focus solely on their league performances last weekend, there is clearly work to do defensively because these two teams look very dangerous when on the attack yet can be defensively poor at times as well.

Newcastle however do need a better start than they did against Brighton who literally flew out of the traps and stunned them into submission with two goals in the opening seven minutes, which is akin to what we saw Tottenham do to Southampton but VAR luckily kept the Saints in it for longer than potentially expected.

I therefore am expecting a feisty game because both teams look great going forward but defending will be key and I can see Tottenham just faring better in that aspect.

Prediction: Tottenham Hotspur 2-1 Newcastle United

Result: Tottenham Hotspur 1-1 Newcastle United
