Formula Two have announced that Hitech Grand Prix will join the grid from the new 2020 season, meaning that eleven teams will be racing in F2 this season.
Hitech will take race numbers, 24 and 25 after the number 19 was retired in memory of Anthoine Hubert who tragically passed away after an incident in the Belgian Feature Race last season.
Hitech are yet to announce their driver lineup for the new season but Leonardo Pulcini could step up, having raced for the team in F3 last season whilst Juri Vips has moved to Super Formula and Ye Yifei looks unlikely given his results in 2019.
F2 has been a series in which Hitech has aspired towards for sometime according to owner, Oliver Oakes; ” I’d like to thank Bruno for the trust placed in Hitech to give us an additional entry. Stepping up to F2 was always something we were aspiring towards, once we had established ourselves in the new era of Formula 3.
Oakes also reflected on the challenge facing his team this season, saying; ““Hitech Grand Prix enjoyed a strong Formula 3 season in 2019 and I know that although they are joining late, they will be able to adapt quickly to Formula 2 in order to fight against the other teams.”
Speaking about Hitech’s decision to join F2 amidst interest from several teams in joining the series, Formula Two CEO – Bruno Michel said; “I am pleased to welcome Hitech Grand Prix to our 2020 F2 grid. As stated before, many teams continuously show interest in joining our Championship. Today’s driver market combined with Hitech’s prowess meant this addition to the new season became possible.”
Michel also praised the team for their performance in F3 last season and believes that they should quickly adapt to F2, saying; “Hitech Grand Prix enjoyed a strong Formula 3 season in 2019 and I know that although they are joining late, they will be able to adapt quickly to Formula 2 in order to fight against the other teams.”
HiTech will join HWA Racelab in making their F2 bows when the season commences in Bahrain across the weekend of 20-22 March.
