2019-20 Sky Bet Championship: Week 28 Roundup

West Bromwich Albion continue to sit atop of the Sky Bet Championship after a dramatic weekend saw the top two teams suffer shock defeats. 

Tyrese Campbell handed Stoke a shock win after he blasted in a ninth-minute square ball from Tom Ince, leaving West Brom still top from Leeds by a single point after the Yorkshire team also suffered defeat. 

Nakhi Well’s poke-in from a from a deflected Eberechi Eze free-kick handed QPR a narrow home win over Leeds, who suffered their fifth straight defeat in London this season in all competitions.

Anthony Knockaert’s sixth minute strike helped Fulham climb to third as they ended Middlesbrough’s five league match unbeaten run. 

Brentford therefore slipped to fourth after a goalless draw at Huddersfield, as Nottingham Forest moved level on points after coming from behind to defeat rock-bottom Luton 3-1 as Joe Lolley netted a brace. 

Swansea round out the top six after Rhian Brewster and Andre Ayew helped the Swans complete a comeback win over second-bottom Wigan, who had briefly led through Nathan Byrne’s opening strike. 

Millwall are a point outside of the play-offs in seventh, after Jon Dadi Bodvarsson helped the Lions defeat his former club – Reading in a 2-0 win at The Den. 

Bristol City meanwhile denied third-bottom Barnsley a point through Niclas Eliasson’s effort from a 87th minute cross by Jay Dasilva, as the Robins climbed to eighth.

Elsewhere, Lewis Holtby picked up a brace as Blackburn thrashed a ten-man Sheffield Wednesday as Massimo Luongo was sent off for a foul on Lewis Travis after Holtby’s opener. 

Josh Harrop helped Preston come from behind to defeat Charlton with a goal then assist in Patrick Bauer’s winning header against Bauer’s former team, although Andre Green had initially put the Addicks ahead against his former loan club. 

Matt Clarke’s second-half header was enough for Derby to beat Hull despite the Rams being charged for a breach of financial rules last week. 

Finally, Lee Tomlin rescued Cardiff a point at Birmingham City, having fallen behind to Jude Bellingham’s fifth minute opener.
