2018-19 UEFA Champions League Last 16: Second Legs – Manchester City vs Schalke

Having emerged victorious 3-2 in the first leg, Manchester City welcome Schalke to the Etihad as both sides aim to book a place in the last eight.

Manchester City could hand John Stones a late fitness test as he battles a tight groin.

Nicolas Otamendi and Fernandinho are suspended after receiving their third yellow cards of tournament in the first leg.

Kevin de Bruyne (hamstring), Benjamin Mendy (knee) and Claudio Bravo (Achilles) are the Citizens’ only absentees.

Schalke are without Daniel Caliguiri and Omar Mascarel due to respective ankle and groin injuries.

Alessandro Schopf is ruled out until next season with a knee injury for the Bundesliga side.

Prediction

Being at home should bring Man City some comfort but they need to halt a poor run of second leg performances, otherwise Schalke will pounce on any nerves and turn this tie on its head.

I however feel that City will be at another level given their impressive home record this season, and pull through.

Prediction: Manchester City 2-1 Schalke
