Bristol City welcome Wolverhampton Wanderers to Aston Gate in the first of Sunday’s FA Cup fifth round action.
Team news
Bristol City could hand Andreas Weimann a late fitness test as the striker seeks to overcome back spasm.
Other than Weimann, Lee Johnson has a full squad available to choose from despite concern over one unnamed ‘important player’.
Wolves have no injury concerns with a full squad available for Nuno Espirito Santo to choose from.
Stat Attack
- Bristol City won the only previous FA Cup meeting between these sides in February 1973 at Molineux.
- Wolves have progressed from one of their last three fifth round appearances, crashing out at the Quarter Finals stage in 2003.
- Bristol City have lost three of last two meetings in all competitions (W1, D1, L3).
- Matt Docherty has scored three goals for Wolves already this season in this competition, with both coming in last round against Shrewsbury Town.
- Bristol City haven’t reached this stage since 2001, when they lost 3-0 away at Leicester City.
Prediction
Bristol City are flying high on a 15 match unbeaten run since end of November in all competitions so expect them to really test Wolves here.
Espirito Santo’s side however have proved themselves in Premier League so can afford a cup run, although seventh in league represents their best shot at European football next season.
This is a tough match to call but in front of a near sell out crowd, I fancy the Robins to take this in extra time.
Prediction: Bristol City 2-1 (AET) Wolverhampton Wanderers
Result: Bristol City 0-1 Wolverhampton Wanderers
