2018-19 UEFA Nations League: Republic of Ireland vs Denmark

11 months on from missing out on a spot at the World Cup, Republic of Ireland come face to face with Denmark again, this time in Group B4 of the UEFA Nations League.

The Irish currently sit bottom of the group so know that this is a must win if they are to realistically stand any chance of survival. They are however back in action on Tuesday against Wales which could very well be a six pointer depending on the result here.

Denmark meanwhile can move closer to promotion to League A with three precious points.

Shane Long is available for the Republic of Ireland after overcoming an ankle issue.

James McClean and Harry Arter also return after injury and a training ground bust up respectively.

Seamus Coleman (foot), Jonathan Walters (Achilles), Robbie Brady (hamstring) and Stephen Ward (knee) are all absent with injuries.

Denmark are set to be without Tottenham’s Christian Eriksen who has sustained a stomach injury.

Prediction

Republic of Ireland have been a mess for the past year, particularly in defence but managed two consecutive clean sheets this time last year.

Fast forward 12 months and I cannot a repeat because the defence has been a shambles to say the least. Add in a poor goal scoring record then I can see a Danish victory coming here with or without Christian Eriksen.

Prediction: Republic of Ireland 0-2 Denmark

Result: Republic of Ireland 0-0 Denmark
