Watford vs Crystal Palace

Due to fixture movements, there is just the one Premier League 3pm game on Saturday between Watford and Crystal Palace at Vicarage Road.

Watford are virtually safe but Palace know that a win here is pivotal to their survival hopes.

Team news

Watford full back, Jose Holebas could return from a back injury for this clash.

Andre Carillo Diaz and Sebastian Prodl are also expected to return from a knock and illness here.

Midfielders, Gerard Deulofeu and Younes Kaboul face another fortnight on side-lines before potentially returning to the squad after ankle injuries.

Nathaniel Chalobah (knee) could possibly feature in the Hornet’s final game of season.

Tommie Hoban (knee) and Tom Cleverley (thigh) are ruled out for rest of season.

Crystal Palace could have Jeffery Schlupp back from an ankle injury.

Striker, Connor Wickham is close to returning from a groin strain but isn’t ready for first team action.

Scott Dann (knee), Jason Puncheon (knee) and Bakary Sako (ankle) are ruled out for rest of season.

Form

Watford are unbeaten in three of last five matches, losing away at Arsenal and Liverpool but took seven points from their last three home games.

Since Javi Garcia took over at end of January, the Hornets are yet to lose at home, winning three and drawing one.

Crystal Palace have taken seven points out of a possible 15 from last five league matches.

They however have scored in last their six matches, with Wilfried Zaha scoring three goals in his last two games.

Stat Attack

Where can game be won or lost?

Per Game Average Watford (home) Crystal Palace (away)
Corners 5.29 5.59
Fouls 11.65 10.88
Shots 12.41 11.12
Shots on Target 3.41 3.35
Goals 1.47 0.82
Yellow Cards 2.12 1.53
Red Cards 2 0
Goals per First Half % 32 28.6
Goals per Second Half % 68 71.4

This match could well be decided by clinical finishing and discipline.

Watford are marginally better in attack and more clinical but commit more fouls.

That in turn means that they see more bookings, meaning that discipline could very well become a factor in the match result.

In term of approach, I can see Palace therefore sitting back and trying to frustrate Watford into losing their cool.

Either way, expect to see a tough physical match here.

Prediction

Crystal Palace need a win here to strengthen their survival hopes but Watford know a win will definitely see them safe.

Although Watford are strong at home going forwards, I think their discipline issues will cost them a win here.

Prediction: Watford 1-1 Crystal Palace

Jake predicts: Watford 1-1 Crystal Palace

Result: Watford 0-0 Crystal Palace
