2017-18 FA Cup Fifth Round Replays: Swansea City vs Sheffield Wednesday

This midweek sees two FA Cup replays take place with Swansea City kicking things off as they welcome Sheffield Wednesday to the Liberty Stadium.

Team news

Midfielder, Leon Britton is expected to return for Swansea after four months out with groin issues.

Andre Ayew and Andy King are cup tied after making appearances for West Ham United and Leicester City respectively.

Wilfried Bony and Leroy Fer are both ruled out for remainder of season, whilst Angel Rangel and Renato Sanches are sidelined.

Sheffield Wednesday could recall Almen Abdi and Liam Palmer after recent injuries.

The Owls’ cup keeper, Cameron Dawson is expected to replace regular goalie, Joe Wildsmith.

Sean Clare, Jack Stobbs and Jordan Thorniley are all cup-tied, having appeared in this competition during loan spells.

Form

After a ten match unbeaten run in all competitions, Swansea were thrashed 4-1 at Brighton on Saturday.

Wednesday has lost both of their league games since the original tie finished 0-0.

Across those games, they scored three and conceded six.

Since 2018 arrived, the Owls have drawn all but one of their away games. Three of those draws were 0-0 with Barnsley match at Oakwell ending 1-1.

Prediction

This will be a tough game for both teams after losing last time out with low temperatures forecast throughout the game.

Given the recent head to head record and both teams set to rotate, I can see a draw here with the Swans winning on penalties.

Prediction: Swansea City 1-1 Sheffield Wednesday (Swansea to win on penalties)

Result: Swansea City 2-0 Sheffield Wednesday
